What this product is
The Wavepaw Dog Life Jacket is a flotation aid. It adds buoyancy while your dog swims, supports their head and neck via the removable front float, and gives you a reinforced handle to guide or lift them with.
What this product is not
- It is not a life-saving device and it is not certified as one.
- It cannot prevent drowning.
- It does not make a dog safe to be left alone near water.
- It is not a substitute for your supervision, and it is not a substitute for veterinary advice about whether your dog should be swimming at all.
Using it sensibly
- Never leave your dog unattended around water, even while wearing the vest.
- Introduce it gradually. Let your dog wear the vest on dry land first, then in shallow, calm water, before anything deep.
- Check the fit every time. A loose vest can ride up over your dog's head; a tight one restricts their swimming.
- Stay within reach in open water, on boats and around strong currents.
- Watch for tiredness. Dogs will often keep swimming past the point of exhaustion. End the session before they get there.
- Inspect the vest before each use — check the buckles, straps, stitching and float for damage, and replace it if anything is worn.
Dogs who need extra care
Puppies, senior dogs, short-nosed (brachycephalic) breeds, dogs recovering from illness or surgery, and any dog who has not swum before should be treated with extra caution. If you have any doubt about whether your dog should be swimming, speak to your vet first.
